What to know before you go
The Statue of Unity is 90 kilometres from Vadodara, which is why it is the trip we run more than any other. The mistake most people make is leaving late. The viewing gallery at 153 metres has timed entry, the queue builds from mid-morning, and the light on the Narmada is best before eleven. We leave the city at seven.
A full day covers the statue, the viewing gallery, the Sardar Sarovar dam viewpoint and the Valley of Flowers, with lunch at Kevadia. Families with time add the jungle safari park and the glow garden, and stay the night at the tent city so the children see the laser show without a late drive home.
