The short version

Australia’s Visitor visa (subclass 600) is applied for entirely online through an ImmiAccount, with documents uploaded as scans and, for Indian passport holders, biometrics at a VFS centre. There is no interview. It is issued for tourism or for visiting family — many of our files are parents visiting children in Melbourne and Sydney — with stays of three, six or twelve months per entry depending on what is granted. The Department decides on the strength of your funds, your ties to India and the credibility of the visit; a well-organised file makes a real difference.

Who needs a visa

Indian passport holders need a Visitor visa (subclass 600) for tourism, visiting family or business meetings in Australia. It is applied for online through ImmiAccount, with biometrics at a VFS centre, and is granted electronically — nothing is stamped in the passport.

Processing time
Most tourist and family visitor applications are decided within 2 to 6 weeks; a proportion take longer, particularly where health or character checks are requested.

Document checklist

The list as the mission publishes it, grouped by what it is for. Your counsellor confirms the exact set for your case — employed, self-employed, retired, student — before anything is filed.

Passport and photographs

  • Passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay, with two blank pages
  • Previous passports, if any
  • Recent photographs to the mission’s specification (size and background differ by country)

Proof of funds

  • Personal bank statements for the last six months, stamped by the bank
  • Income tax returns for the last three years
  • Salary slips (employed) or business registration and GST returns (self-employed)
  • Fixed deposits, property or other assets where relevant

Travel and stay

  • Day-by-day itinerary
  • Confirmed or refundable flight reservations
  • Hotel confirmations, or an invitation and host details when staying with family
  • Travel insurance for the full stay, where the country requires it

Ties to India

  • Employment letter with approved leave dates, or business proof
  • Property papers, family details and other evidence you will return
  • For students: enrolment letter and a no-objection from the institution

Visiting family, additional

  • Invitation letter and the host’s visa grant, PR or citizenship evidence
  • Form 1149 or a sponsor undertaking where the sponsored family stream is used
  • Evidence of the relationship (birth or marriage certificates)

The process

  1. Step 1: Assessment

We confirm the right stream (tourist or sponsored family) and review your funds, history and the host’s status.

  2. Step 2: ImmiAccount

The online application is created and completed with you; the visa application charge is paid.

  3. Step 3: Upload

Documents are scanned to the Department’s specification and uploaded against each checklist item.

  4. Step 4: Biometrics and health

Biometrics at the VFS centre; a health examination if requested (common for longer stays and older applicants).

  5. Step 5: Grant

The grant notice arrives by email; the visa is electronic and linked to your passport.

A range, not a promise. The mission controls the clock.

Why Australia applications get refused

The reasons we see most, from refusal letters and from the mission’s own guidance. A file that addresses these before it is submitted is the whole point of using a consultant.

  • Bank statements that do not support the trip cost, or large unexplained deposits shortly before applying
  • Weak evidence of ties to India: no job letter, no business proof, no family or property details
  • Inconsistencies between the application form, the itinerary and the supporting documents
  • The Department is not satisfied the applicant is a genuine temporary entrant
  • Health or character requirements not met, or requested checks not completed in time

How V4U helps

  • Tell you which visa and which consulate fit your trip, and whether the case is worth filing
  • Build the document list for your situation and check every page before it goes in
  • Complete the online form with you, pay the fee, and book the earliest appointment you can travel to
  • Arrange insurance, flight holds and hotel confirmations that match the itinerary
  • Read a refusal with you and say plainly whether re-applying makes sense
  • Confirm the institution’s offer and the financial evidence the mission asks for
  • Prepare the statement of purpose and the file, and book the appointment

Questions we are asked

The Visitor visa (subclass 600) has a sponsored family stream where an Australian relative sponsors the visit and may be asked for a security bond. The tourist stream also works for family visits and is often simpler; we recommend one based on your circumstances.

Usually not for short visits, but the department can request a health examination or a chest x-ray, particularly for longer stays or applicants over 75, who also need health insurance. A request adds weeks to processing.

The grant letter states it: usually three months per entry, sometimes six or twelve for family visits, on a visa valid for one to three years. Stays are counted strictly; overstaying affects future applications.

Most tourist and family visitor applications are decided within 2 to 6 weeks; a proportion take longer, particularly where health or character checks are requested. These are ranges from recent cases and the mission’s published times, not a promise for yours; the mission controls the clock.

No consultant can. The mission decides every application. What we do is prepare a complete, consistent file, book the appointment and tell you honestly where a case is weak before you pay a fee — including when we think it is not worth filing.
