The short version
New Zealand’s main employer-sponsored route is the Accredited Employer Work Visa: the employer must first be accredited and have a job check approved for the role before the worker applies. Applications are online through Immigration New Zealand, with documents uploaded and a medical and police certificate for most applicants. Roles we see are in healthcare support, trades, dairy and hospitality; the skill and wage thresholds change, and the pathway from a work visa to residence depends on the role’s classification. We also file visitor visas for parents joining family in Auckland and Christchurch.
Who needs a visa
Indian passport holders need a visitor visa for tourism or family visits to New Zealand, and an Accredited Employer Work Visa or another work visa for employment, which requires a job offer from an accredited employer. Both are applied for online and decided by Immigration New Zealand.

Document checklist

Passport and photographs
- Passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay, with two blank pages
- Previous passports, if any
- Recent photographs to the mission’s specification (size and background differ by country)

- Employer accreditation and the approved job check token
- Employment agreement meeting the wage and hours requirements for the role
Work visa, from the applicant
- Qualifications and work references matching the job check
- English language evidence where the role requires it
- Chest X-ray and medical certificates from a panel physician
- Police certificates from India and any country lived in for 12 months or more
Proof of funds
- Personal bank statements for the last six months, stamped by the bank
- Income tax returns for the last three years
- Salary slips (employed) or business registration and GST returns (self-employed)
- Fixed deposits, property or other assets where relevant
Travel and stay
- Day-by-day itinerary
- Confirmed or refundable flight reservations
- Hotel confirmations, or an invitation and host details when staying with family
- Travel insurance for the full stay, where the country requires it
Ties to India
- Employment letter with approved leave dates, or business proof
- Property papers, family details and other evidence you will return
- For students: enrolment letter and a no-objection from the institution

Why New Zealand applications get refused

An employer that Immigration New Zealand has approved to hire migrants. Without accreditation and an approved job check, the employer cannot support your work visa. We verify the accreditation before treating an offer as real.
For the Accredited Employer Work Visa, most applicants must show English at the level set for their role, usually through an IELTS or PTE score, unless exempt. We tell you the score you need before you book a test.
No work on a visitor visa; short courses of up to three months are allowed. Longer study needs a student visa, and work needs a work visa; switching after arrival is possible in some cases but is a fresh application, not an extension.
