The short version
The UK Standard Visitor visa is a documents-only decision: there is no interview, so the file has to answer every question the caseworker would ask. It is applied for online, with biometrics at a VFS centre in Ahmedabad, and it allows stays of up to six months per visit; two-, five- and ten-year multiple-entry versions are available at higher fees. Most of our UK files are parents visiting children in London, Leicester and the Midlands, and the host’s documents matter as much as the applicant’s.
Who needs a visa
Indian passport holders need a Standard Visitor visa for tourism, visiting family, short business trips and short courses in the UK. It is applied for online and decided after biometrics at a VFS centre. Transit through a UK airport without passing immigration may also need a visa depending on your onward ticket.

Document checklist
The list as the mission publishes it, grouped by what it is for. Your counsellor confirms the exact set for your case — employed, self-employed, retired, student — before anything is filed.
Passport and photographs
- Passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay, with two blank pages
- Previous passports, if any
- Recent photographs to the mission’s specification (size and background differ by country)
Proof of funds
- Personal bank statements for the last six months, stamped by the bank
- Income tax returns for the last three years
- Salary slips (employed) or business registration and GST returns (self-employed)
- Fixed deposits, property or other assets where relevant
Travel and stay
- Day-by-day itinerary
- Confirmed or refundable flight reservations
- Hotel confirmations, or an invitation and host details when staying with family
- Travel insurance for the full stay, where the country requires it
Ties to India
- Employment letter with approved leave dates, or business proof
- Property papers, family details and other evidence you will return
- For students: enrolment letter and a no-objection from the institution
Host in the UK, where applicable
- Invitation letter stating relationship, dates and who is paying
- Host’s passport or BRP, and proof of address (council tax, utility bill or tenancy)
- Host’s bank statements and payslips if they are sponsoring the stay
The process
Step 1: Assessment
A counsellor checks purpose, funds and ties and flags any refusal or immigration history that needs explaining.
Step 2: Online application
The form is completed on the UK government site with you; the fee and the immigration health surcharge (where applicable) are paid.
Step 3: Documents and cover letter
We build the evidence pack in the order caseworkers expect and draft the cover letter that ties it together.
Step 4: Biometrics
Fingerprints and photograph at the VFS centre; documents are uploaded or scanned at the centre.
Step 5: Decision
The decision letter arrives by email; the passport is returned with the vignette on approval.

Why United Kingdom applications get refused
The reasons we see most, from refusal letters and from the mission’s own guidance. A file that addresses these before it is submitted is the whole point of using a consultant.
- Bank statements that do not support the trip cost, or large unexplained deposits shortly before applying
- Weak evidence of ties to India: no job letter, no business proof, no family or property details
- Inconsistencies between the application form, the itinerary and the supporting documents
- Host documents missing or the host’s own income insufficient for the sponsorship claimed
- A visit plan that is too long or too open-ended for the applicant’s circumstances

Questions we are asked
Up to six months per visit on a visa that is usually issued for six months, or for two, five or ten years for frequent travellers. The visa does not allow work, and repeated long stays can lead to questions at the border.
No sponsor is required, but an invitation letter, the host’s immigration status and proof of their accommodation help. Your own funds and ties to India still have to stand on their own; a sponsor cannot substitute for them.
An optional paid upgrade at the application centre that aims for a decision within five working days, or the next working day for super-priority, when the service is offered at your centre. It shortens processing, not the appointment wait, and does not change the decision.
