What to know before you go
Sri Lanka is a week-long road trip on an island the size of a small Indian state: Colombo to Kandy for the Temple of the Tooth, the train through the tea country to Nuwara Eliya and Ella, a jeep safari at Yala or Udawalawe for elephants and leopards, then the beaches at Mirissa or Bentota for the last two nights and a whale-watching boat in season.
Flights go from Mumbai, Chennai or Bengaluru; Indian passport holders apply for an ETA online, which we do. The famous Kandy–Ella train sells out its reserved carriages weeks ahead; we book them the day you confirm, or we tell you it is sold and offer the road.
For families who want a temple trip, the Ramayana trail — Sita Amman temple, Ashok Vatika, Ravana's cave — is a genuine circuit and we run it as such.
