6 days, 5 nights. Every day below can move; this is the shape we start from.

Day 1
Kochi to Munnar
Met at Kochi airport and driven up to Munnar (four hours) past Cheeyappara waterfalls. Evening at the hotel among the tea.
Day 2
Munnar
Eravikulam national park for the Nilgiri tahr (closed Feb–Mar for calving), Mattupetty dam, the tea museum and Top Station for the view.
Day 3
Munnar to Thekkady
Drive to Thekkady (three hours). Periyar lake boat ride, a spice garden walk, and the Kathakali or Kalaripayattu show in the evening.
Day 4
Thekkady to Alleppey houseboat
Drive down to Alleppey and board a private houseboat at noon. Cruise the backwaters, lunch and dinner cooked on board, moored overnight in a quiet stretch.
Day 5
Alleppey to Kovalam
Disembark after breakfast and drive to Kovalam (four hours). Afternoon on Lighthouse beach.
Day 6
Depart Trivandrum
Padmanabhaswamy temple for early risers, then transfer to Trivandrum airport.
