The short version
Thailand has allowed Indian passport holders to enter without a visa for short tourist stays since late 2023, an arrangement that has been extended and widened since. For most of our holiday travellers there is nothing to file: you fly with a valid passport, a return ticket and proof of accommodation, and complete the arrival card. Where a longer stay, work, study or a multiple-entry arrangement is needed, a visa or e-visa is applied for through the Thai embassy’s online system. Because the visa-free rules have changed several times, we confirm the current position for your dates when you book rather than relying on last year’s advice.
Who needs a visa
Indian passport holders have been able to visit Thailand for tourism without a visa for short stays since 2024, under a facility that has been extended and amended more than once. Longer stays, work, study and some other purposes still need a visa in advance. We confirm the position for your dates before you travel.

Document checklist

Passport and photographs
- Passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay, with two blank pages
- Previous passports, if any
- Recent photographs to the mission’s specification (size and background differ by country)

Yes: a passport valid for six months, a return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation and evidence of funds. Immigration officers can ask for these at the airport, and the digital arrival card should be completed before you fly.
A tourist visa from the Royal Thai Embassy or an e-visa allows a longer stay, and extensions are possible in Thailand at an immigration office for a fee. Overstaying is fined per day and recorded.
Working for a Thai employer needs a work permit. Thailand has introduced a long-term visa for remote workers with income and insurance conditions; it is a separate application, not something we file as part of a holiday.
